Hello everyone,
Left Edinburgh this morning to head south towards England. Our first stop was in a town called Galashiels, about an hour south of Edinburgh, where Sam lived as a boy before coming to Australia. We then headed towards Jedburgh where there is a magnificent ruined abbey built in 1138, we stopped and took photos but by this time it ws raining again so we did not do the full visit of the abbey. Kept going towards England and as we crossed the border we stopped at a viewpoint but it was a bit wet to see much. Our next stop was at Hadrian's Wall which Sabine had always wanted to see and stand on, she got her wish as the rain had stopped temporarily. There were lots of other Roman ruins and forts to visit but the rain had started again so we just kept going until we reached our overnight stop in a cute little town called Haltwhistle. We had a nice meal in a cosy and very busy little pub. We head off to York tomorrow. Sabine and Sam.
There's lots to do in York, but try not to miss the rail museum (just outside the wall) - it's got a lot of interesting stuff which is of interest to everyone, not just rail fans! And I think it's free.
