Tuesday 19th July, 2011

Hello to all
It is 3 months today since we left home. We have done some amazing things and seen some absolutely beautiful places, very glad we have done this.
We set off from Haltwhistle this morning to head to York. We pretty much drove through torrential rain most of the way and had to stop a number of times in lay-bys as it was too wet to continue on. We arrived in York at about 1.00 and were able to book into our B&B another very well organised place by Sam.
We set off with our brollies and wet weather shoes to see what we could. We visited York Minster first, Northern Europe's largest Gothic Cathedral, a very beautiful place. We walked thru the lovely city, saw many beautiful churches (sheltering in St Wilfrid's Catholic Church) along with many others as there was torrential rain again. We then saw Treasurer's House which was owned by a Frank Green who gave it to The National Trust in about 1930 along with all furnishings etc, an amazing bequest. The original house in this location was built on Roman foundations, so has a 2,000 year history. We had to shelter here as well at the end of the day as torrential rain again. We had some dinner at a great pub and walked home. Very big day planned for tomorrow. Sam and Sabine
