29 June 2011 Bowness

Hello everyone,
Today we went for a drive in the Yorkshire Dales as the start of this area is next to the Lake District. The morning was absolutely beautiful with a clear sky and it stayed that way all day, but it was a little cool in the shade. The first town we came to was called Sedbergh, it was a very attractive town but we only passed through without stopping, then moved into the Dales proper, the land was very different to the Lake District, it looked a bit less prosperous and less fertile, but still very beautiful. The roads were narrow and twisty but pretty quiet. Next town we came to was called Hawes, we stopped there for a while and had a good look around. It was a very pretty and busy place with lots of activity, antique shops and the like, and then we had a lovely lunch in a little cafe called Chaste. We then headed off to another picturesque town called Dent and stopped there for a while too. The roads got narrower and twistier and a bit busier so it needed a lot of concentration and sudden stops when a car or truck was coming the other way. Still we managed to negotiate our way along them all. On our way home we passed through Sedbergh again but it was hard to find a parking space so we just kept going. We were a bit tired by the time we got home. Tomorrow we are going on a full day mini-coach tour around the Lake District which will include seeing 10 lakes and other points of interest. Sabine and Sam.
